Yahoo! blackouts hit IM addicts

source: silicon.com

Some registered Yahoo! users were left without email or instant-messaging capability on Tuesday and Wednesday. While the company acknowledged an early morning outage on Wednesday, some Yahoo! user reports indicated services were also out on Tuesday night in some areas. There were also complaints of Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball being unavailable. Joe Beaulaurier, the blogger for 'The Unofficial Yahoo! Weblog', said: "I've been encountering problems with logging in to Yahoo! last night and again this morning. Sluggish to get into mail, and I have been unable to log in to Messenger at all this morning." The site also received comments from users complaining that Yahoo! did not immediately post a notice about the outage on its main page.

Dead' woman's World Cup wake-up

A 94-year-old declared dead suddenly sprang up and asked when Germany were next playing in the World Cup.

When told she had been declared dead by doctors, Maria Mueller replied: "Not likely, not until I see if Germany wins the World Cup.

"There's still life in these old bones yet, and I certainly couldn't miss the football."

Mrs Mueller had been found slumped over in her chair by son Bernhard Mueller, 66, at their home in Luegde. Neither Bernhard nor a local doctor could find a pulse.

Man hands over wife to pay debt

A Romanian man has handed over his wife to a creditor as payment for his debts.

Emil Iancu, from tIghisu Nou, gave his wife Daniela to 72-year-old Jozef Justien Lostrie when he turned up on his doorstep to collect a £1,800 debt.

Iancu said: "I had no money to pay the debt and when I told Lostrie he said he would take my wife instead.

"I was scared of what he would do and so I signed a document saying Daniela would live with him."

But Daniela says the deal has proved better for her.

"Before I had to clean the house and look after our three children on my own, while Emil did nothing, but now I'm treated like a guest and hardly have to raise a finger," she said.

Hell hots up for 666 party

Hell is hotting up for a party to celebrate 6/6/06.

Residents of the hamlet of Hell, Michigan, are hoping tourists from throughout the US will visit on the day.

Souvenir shop owner John Colone, who is also the mayor, said: "I've got '666' T-shirts and mugs. I'm only ordering 666 so, once they're gone, that's it.

"Everyone who comes will get a letter of authenticity saying: "You've celebrated June 6, 2006, in Hell"."

But local man Jason LeTeff complained: "Here I am living in Hell, taking my kids to church and trying to teach them the right things - and the town where we live is having a 666 party."
