So Opera did it to me again :yes: being an Opera user i got the chance to be interviewed by Li Yuan a news reporter from Wall Street Journal :cool:

Another Tsunami has just hit Indonesia, at approximately from 3.19 PM (GMT +7) to 5 PM local time. The tsunami is triggered by three earthquakes each 5.1, 5.7, 6.3 on the richter scale. The affected regions reported are Pangandaran in South of West Java, and Kebumen. The tsunami hits south shores in Java. Yet another sad disaster for Indonesia :(

Users of the Yahoo and Microsoft instant messaging programs can now contact each other directly.

The two firms have released software that ties the two networks into a huge community of 350 million users.

The trial software allows people to swap text messages but will eventually let people talk to each other too.

The move marks a break with the past when operators of the big instant message systems resisted calls to open up their networks.

Chat channel

AOL, Microsoft and Yahoo operate the largest instant messaging networks and, until recently, anyone wanting to talk to friends using different text chat systems had to maintain several separate accounts.

Users can sign up for the test software via the Yahoo and Microsoft messaging sites. Only those using the latest versions of the IM software will be able to join the trial. Eventually the software will be made available to every user.

The software uniting the two networks will use icons next to people's names to denote whether that person is on the Yahoo or Microsoft system.

"It does make it easier for many consumers who will need to keep one less instant messaging system up and running now," said Jupiter analyst Michael Gartenberg.

The tie-up makes good on a promise the two companies made in late 2005 to get their networks linked.

The trial version of the software is being made available to users of the two networks in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK and US.

Weblog', said: "I've been encountering problems with logging in to Yahoo! last night and again this morning. Sluggish to get into mail, and I have been unable to log in to Messenger at all this morning." Dead' woman's World Cup wake-up

A 94-year-old declared dead suddenly sprang up and asked when Germany were next playing in the World Cup.

When told she had been declared dead by doctors, Maria Mueller replied: "Not likely, not until I see if Germany wins the World Cup.

Man hands over wife to pay debt

A Romanian man has handed over his wife to a creditor as payment for his debts.

Emil Iancu, from tIghisu Nou, gave his wife Daniela to 72-year-old Jozef Justien Lostrie when he turned up on his doorstep to collect a £1,800 debt.

Iancu said: "I had no money to pay the debt and when I told Lostrie he said he would take my wife instead.

"I was scared of what he would do and so I signed a document saying Daniela would live with him."

But Daniela says the deal has proved better for her.

"Before I had to clean the house and look after our three children on my own, while Emil did nothing, but now I'm treated like a guest and hardly have to raise a finger," she said.

Residents of the hamlet of Hell, Michigan, are hoping tourists from throughout the US will visit on the day.

Pregnant woman due of 6.6.6

A pregnant woman who is due to give birth on June 6 wants to be induced as she is terrified of giving brith to the devil.

Melissa Parker says she has been having nightmares ever since she was told that her due date is 06/06/06 or 666.

According to The Sun she said: "When I got my due date I thought 'Oh God, I'm giving birth to Damien from the Omen'.

"Every day I wake up feeling something bad will happen. I'm terrified the birth will go wrong or the child will have evil in him or her. Even worse my beautiful baby could be the devil himself - the anti-Christ.

"I like The Omen and saw an advert for the remake. Now I'm even more worried."

Melissa, who lives with road worker partner Lee in Caversham, Berks, has been told by Royal Berkshire Hospital that her due date cannot be changed.

A hospital spokesman said: "Due dates are not 100 per cent certain. There is little we can do to change them without a Caesarean or inducing the child, which we try to avoid. We must let nature take its course. The baby will be born when ready, no matter what day it is."

666 is mentioned in the Bible and many cultures believe it represents the date the anti-christ will appear on Earth.

A female radio presenter has been sacked - for dressing too sexily on air.

The 25-year-old DJ, known as Lady Ray, is now taking Radio Bremen to an industrial tribunal.

She said: "My boss told me that my skirts were too short and my tops too low.

"But I don't understand it, it's not as if any of the listeners can see me and my breasts don't speak into the microphone."

She is claiming damages for unfair dismissal.

Burglar fell asleep in victim's bed

A burglar who downed a bottle of vodka was caught after falling asleep in the king sized bed of one of his victims.

Austrian home owner Gerhard Sobor, from Traisen, said: "I walked into the bedroom and found a strange man, fully clothed, snoring away on my bed.

"His pockets were full of my wife's jewellery, and there was an empty bottle beside him."

Police arrested the 28-year-old man and charged him with breaking and entering.

yup mail.google.com takes a lot of time to load, especially when you use dial up connection like me :(
so to get away for that time consuming process, i started to use gmail pop via outlook express, it saves a lot of time.
Sometimes i use another trick, that is changing my firefox user agent into a mobile phone wap browser, and if i try to access mail.google.com, they gave me the xhtml version so it's fast and simple :)

Ok so the highlight of the story is the quote "Yang suka telanjang hanya monyet." which means "Only monkeys love to get naked". This is about a proposed constitution on Pornography and Pornoaction (ever hear of the term Pornoaction? me neither) :).
And of course some people agrees and some against. I'm the one whose against. Ok back to the quote, The quote says that only monkeys love to get naked so we are all monkeys when we're bathing :D or changing clothes , etc. That's all i gotta say :D

An armed robber rang his mum on his mobile phone when he found himself cornered by police during a raid.

The man, 26, was trying to rob an electronics shop in Sao Paulo, Brazil, when police arrived, Agora newspaper reports.

He then threatened the hostages and said that he would not do anything until he had spoken to his mother.

The robber, who had four accomplices, called his mother and, after speaking to her, agreed to release the hostages.

A police spokesman said: "I never saw anything like this before, he was the classic case of a mama's boy until the end.

last monday i got soaked up wet 'cos the rain.
here's the story:

monday i got algebra class at 5 pm, i was planning to skip it but my gf said that i should go and so i went to campus. It was a cloudy day. I use public transportation to get there, on the way there rain falls down, heavy rain. I get all soaked up. From the place i stop to campus is a long walk. so i walk in the middle of the rain cos the rain is getting gentler but in the middle of the way it gets heavy again so i decided to stop by to a canteen, buy spagghetti and skip class :), and so i ate there till the rain stops. at 5.45 i decided to go home and what do you know i got all caught up in traffic jam for NEARLY 2 HOURS!!!! damn!!!
I HATE MONDAY!!!

A Dutch carpenter's range of erotic furniture is going on display at an art gallery.

Cabinet maker Mario Philippona uses the female anatomy as inspiration for his range of cupboards, wardrobes and tables.

His pieces include a wine-glass cupboard in the shape of a pair of large breasts and a table supported by legs moulded from a female model.

His latest works, including a chair made from women's legs and bottoms, are going on display at the Erotica Dell' Arte exhibition at the Gallery Kralingen in Rotterdam next month.

Philippona said: "The shape of a woman, her organic architecture, combined with my passion for wood inspired me to sculpt these sexy designs."

Top cop arrested for bank robbery

A German police commissioner has been arrested for robbing a bank near his police station.

The 52-year-old was caught after using his girlfriend's car as a getaway vehicle.

The senior officer, who has not been named for legal reasons, stormed into the bank in Trier, Rhineland-Pfalz, wearing a mask and brandishing a gun.

He demanded the branch manager hand over the cash and escaped in a car which was later found abandoned.

But his colleagues were able to trace the car back to the commissioner's girlfriend who admitted she had leant it to him for the week.

A police spokeswoman said: "We just can't believe it. We are trained to fight crime, not commit it. But you can just never tell who is the black sheep among your colleagues.

"I'm surprised he used his girlfriend's car though, even the dumbest thieves usually use stolen vehicles."

Parrot held in prison

A parrot has spent five days under police 'interrogation' in prison in Argentina.

A judge ordered Pepo to be held in custody until he told police who was his real owner, reports UOL.

Two neighbours, Jorge Machado and R Vega, were disputing ownership of the bird.

Judge Osvaldo Carlos decided the parrot should be sent to prison until he said the name of his owner.

After five days, Pepo said Jorge's name and also sung the anthem of his favourite football team San Lorenzo.

Mr Machado said: "I knew he wasn't going to let me down, he is a real friend and we support the same football team."

Rules:
1. Each participant only allow to submit one contest entry.
2. Only chinese song is allowed.
3. The winner is judge by the most vote received by chinese music forum members (each member can cast only one vote).

Pupils start fire to dodge maths test [ananova.com]

Three Argentinian schoolchildren set fire to their school to get out of a maths test.

Two girls, aged 15 and 16, and a boy, 15, set curtains alight in one classroom at Santa Maria School in Buenos Aires.

The flames spread to other rooms but firefighters extinguished the blaze before anyone was caught.

The culprits owned up when police started questioning pupils to find out how the fire started, reports UOL Noticias Populares.

A police spokesman said: "They confessed straight away, simply saying they were dreading the maths test and that it looked like a good way out of it."

Josephine Crawford was down to her last few coins when she hit the jackpot at Harrah's casino in New Jersey.

Museum for the broken-hearted

A museum dedicated to broken hearts has opened in Croatia.

Drazen Grubisic and Olinka Vistica decided to set up the museum after consoling friends over their failed romances.

Items on display at the museum in Zagreb include letters and mementoes.

Grubisic said: "We've never heard of such a museum and hope that it will be a form of therapy for all those people with broken hearts. We have collected mementoes, letters and different things from numerous people who have lost their loves.

"The museum has everything from romantic and touching letters to different gifts given to lovers like teddy bears and photos. Every single object on display has a full description of the relationship that was behind it and how that person has moved on. That's why we think it could be therapeutic for those with newly broken hearts."

Religious scholars in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, told the couple to obey orders or face social boycott, reports Asian News International.

The couple were told the only alternative under Muslim law was a temporary separation of 100 days during which the wife would stay at her father’s house and spend a night with another man who she must marry.

But the mother of three has threatened to commit suicide if forced to marry someone else: “I love him and I don’t want to leave him in any case," she said.

My opinion about freedom of religion

There’s an ongoing controversy in Indonesia about freedom of religion. Lately there are many ‘new’ religions emerge in the society. The problem is some people can’t accept these new religions; some even condemn these religions just because the new religions are different from their religion. Some of the new religions offer different concept and rituals from the others. Some added new prophet into previous religion.

These condemnation –from my point of view- is useless, and do not reflect the freedom of religion concept in Indonesia. For me as long as these religions do not pose a threat to society criminally they should be allowed to practice their religion.

Just an opinion 
And if people have a right to choose than they have a right to choose not to choose 

A Canadian teenager is in trouble after selling her mum's camcorder - with a home made blue movie still inside.

The mother did not even know the camera was missing until her boyfriend complained the video was going around town.

The film showed the mother and her boyfriend engaged in an intimate act, reports Canadian Press.

The daughter, now 19, of Peterborough, Ontario, admitted she'd taken the camera from her mother's bedroom closet and sold it to a friend for £100.

The mother called police and her daughter was charged with theft.

Lawyer Robert Beninger said his client didn't know the tape was in the camera.

"It's an unfortunate byproduct of her taking the camera," he said.

Lemur named after John Cleese

John Cleese has had a newly discovered species of lemur named after him.

The small woolly Avahi cleesei lives on leaves in a remote part of Madagascar, reports the Mirror.

The name is a tribute to the Monty Python star's conservation work, including a documentary about the plight of woolly lemurs.

Urs Thalmann, of the University of Zurich, who discovered the species, said the lemur's long legs were the only physical similarity to the actor, famous for his Silly Walks sketch.

She joked: "Woolly lemurs can't really walk, but they do enjoy silly jumps."

Mr Thalmann speaking to New Scientist magazine, added: "I thought surely he must be a lemur fancier."

School allows beachwear in hot classrooms

Pupils at a German school were allowed to strip down to beachwear after the heating system stuck on full power.

The piping hot radiators left classrooms sweltering in 30 degrees centigrade, even with all of the windows open.

So staff announced children could wear swimwear - including bikinis and swimming shorts - in class until the radiators could be fixed.

The Anne Frank primary school, in Linden, only recently had the expensive digital heating system installed and experts have been unable to identify the problem.

School headmaster Bruno Kraft said: "We have been having problems ever since they installed the new, fully digitalised heating control system."

Reds Investigate Dressing Room Recordings

United are investigating a possible bugging incident at Old Trafford after audio tapes were offered to The Sun newspaper.

The tapes were apparently recorded in the home dressing room on Sunday 6 November - the day the Reds beat Chelsea.

The contents reportedly include pre-match and half-time team-talks, plus celebratory comments following the 1-0 victory.

The Sun handed the tapes over to United on Friday evening. Phil Townsend, United's director of communications, commented:

"We are grateful to The Sun for bringing this breach of security and privacy to our attention. We have launched our own investigation and if necessary will involve the police."

GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania -- A U.S. man is suing his ex-girlfriend for more than $30,000 for gluing his genitals to his abdomen five years ago. Kenneth Slaby of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is suing Gail O'Toole, with whom he broke up in 1999, after dating for 10 months. Slaby then began dating someone else but, according to the lawsuit, O'Toole invited him over to her home on May 7, 2000, where he fell asleep.

When he woke up, Slaby found O'Toole had used Super Glue to stick his genitals to his abdomen, glued his buttocks together and spelled out a profanity on his back in nail polish.

Ms. O'Toole allegedly told him it was payback for their breakup, and he had to walk 1.6 kilometers (not quite a mile) to a gas station to call for help.

"This was not just some petty domestic squabble," said Slaby's lawyer.

O'Toole pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and served six months' probation, but her ex-boyfriend is now suing for damages. O'Toole's lawyer said it was a consensual act and Slaby wasn't permanently damaged.

"This is a case that should have been left in the bedroom," he said.

A Dutch designer has created a wall of fake breasts to help male shoppers buy bras that fit their wives or girlfriends.

Wendy Rameckers works at the Piet Zwart Institute for Retail and Design in Rotterdam, reports Het Nieuwsblad.

"Most men have a selective memory," she explained. "They know all about their car, but never seem to know their wife's bra size.

"When trying to buy a sexy bra for their wife or girlfriend, usually they point to other women in the shop or, when asked about size, they say a 'handful'."

The wall consists of rows of silicon breasts in all sizes. By look and touch, male shoppers can work out the right size, she says.

So how does the storyline go for The 3 Wise Men?

It’s about Los Tres Reyes Magos.
The three kings that went to see Jesus. It’s a Spanish holiday that you celebrate after Christmas, January 6th. I didn’t discover this holiday until I went to Spain, and I was like, “Oh my gosh, this is the coolest thing ever!” Being a Latin person raised in America, we just celebrate the normal Christmas. But in Latin countries, they celebrate Los Tres Reyes Magos. Basically you wish for the three kings to bring you gifts. It’s just really cool. And the movie is about Herod…and how the three kings are trying to find their way to Jesus.

Tell us about your involvement in the The 3 Wise Men. What was your role?

I am a warrior princess [Sarah], and I’m trying to get everybody to join my army against Herod the tyrant. I’m basically trying to change the world.

It’s hard being a woman in a man’s world, so she definitely has that going, and she runs into lots of issues. She’s trying to take this army, “Let’s beat Herod!” Everyone laughs at her saying, “C’mon, you’re just a girl. You don’t know anything….” I related well with the character, so for me, playing the part was actually pretty easy.
It was a great experience for me.

With which character did you work closely for your role in this film?

Actually, when I did my voice character, I didn’t see anybody else. I was there about 4-
6 hours to do my character. I had a great time though.

So overall, how was the whole voice recording experience?

It’s a lot harder than it looks!
You’re watching the film, as you are recording the part. So you’re standing there in the studio and they give you a timer that goes bee-beep-beep.
The line comes up and you have to get right into it. It’s all about rhythm and time.
It was really hard, but a lot of fun!

So what age audience do you think this film is fitting for?

For me, I don’t think the age matters for this one. People go and see Christmas movies- I know that I watch Christmas movies during the holidays- whether it is animated or not.

This is really just like a family movie.

Alas, the sense of community that a common faith brings to a people spelled trouble for me. In time, my religious doings went from the notice of those to whom it didn’t matter and only amused, to that of those to whom it did matter—and they were not amused.

“What is your son doing going to temple?” asked the priest.

“Your son was seen in church crossing himself,” said the imam.

“Your son has gone Muslim,” said the pandit.

Yes, it was all forcefully brought to the attention of my bemused parents. You see, they didn’t know. They didn’t know that I was a practising Hindu, Christian and Muslim. Teenagers always hide a few things from their parents, isn’t that so? All sixteen-year-olds have secrets, don’t they? But fate decided that my parents and I and the three wise men, as I shall call them, should meet one day on the Goubert Salai seaside esplanade and that my secret should be outed. It was a lovely, breezy, hot Sunday afternoon and the Bay of Bengal glittered under a blue sky. Townspeople were out for a stroll. Children screamed and laughed. Coloured balloons floated in the air. Ice cream sales were brisk. Why think of business on such a day, I ask? Why couldn’t they have just walked by with a nod and a smile? It was not to be. We were to meet not just one wise man but all three, and not one after another but at the same time, and each would decide upon seeing us that right then was the golden occasion to meet that Pondicherry notable, the zoo director, he of the model devout son. When I saw the first, I smiled; by the time I had laid eyes on the third, my smile had frozen into a mask of horror. When it was clear that all three were converging on us, my heart jumped before sinking very low.

The wise men seemed annoyed when they realized that all three of them were approaching the same people. Each must have assumed that the others were there for some business other than pastoral and had rudely chosen that moment to deal with it. Glances of displeasure were exchanged.

My parents looked puzzled to have their way gently blocked by three broadly smiling religious strangers. I should explain that my family was anything but orthodox. Father saw himself as part of the New India—rich, modern and as secular as ice cream. He didn’t have a religious bone in his body. He was a businessman, pronounced busynessman in his case, a hardworking, earthbound professional, more concerned with inbreeding among the lions than any over-arching moral or existential scheme. It’s true that he had all new animals blessed by a priest and there were two small shrines at the zoo, one to Lord Ganesha and one to Hanuman, gods likely to please a zoo director, what with the first having the head of an elephant and the second being a monkey, but Father’s calculation was that this was good for business, not good for his soul, a matter of public relations rather than personal salvation. Spiritual worry was alien to him; it was financial worry that rocked his being. “One epidemic in the collection,” he used to say, “and we’ll end up in a road crew breaking up stones.” Mother was mum, bored and neutral on the subject. A Hindu upbringing and a Baptist education had precisely cancelled each other out as far as religion was concerned and had left her serenely impious. I suspect she suspected that I had a different take on the matter, but she never said anything when as a child I devoured the comic books of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata and an illustrated children’s Bible and other stories of the gods. She herself was a big reader. She was pleased to see me with my nose buried in a book, any book, so long as it wasn’t naughty. As for Ravi, if Lord Krishna had held a cricket bat rather than a flute, if Christ had appeared more plainly to him as an umpire, if the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, had shown some notions of bowling, he might have lifted a religious eyelid, but they didn’t, and so he slumbered.

After the “Hellos” and the “Good days”, there was an awkward silence. The priest broke it when he said, with pride in his voice, “Piscine is a good Christian boy. I hope to see him join our choir soon.”

My parents, the pandit and the imam looked surprised.

“You must be mistaken. He’s a good Muslim boy. He comes without fail to Friday prayer, and his knowledge of the Holy Qur’an is coming along nicely.” So said the imam.

My parents, the priest and the pandit looked incredulous.

The pandit spoke. “You’re both wrong. He’s a good Hindu boy. I see him all the time at the temple coming for darshan and performing puja.”

My parents, the imam and the priest looked astounded.

“There is no mistake,” said the priest. “I know this boy. He is Piscine Molitor Patel and he’s a Christian.”

“I know him too, and I tell you he’s a Muslim,” asserted the imam.

“Nonsense!” cried the pandit. “Piscine was born a Hindu, lives a Hindu and will die a Hindu!”

The three wise men stared at each other, breathless and disbelieving.

Lord, avert their eyes from me, I whispered in my soul.

All eyes fell upon me.

“Piscine, can this be true?” asked the imam earnestly. “Hindus and Christians are idolaters. They have many gods.”

“And Muslims have many wives,” responded the pandit.

The priest looked askance at both of them. “Piscine,” he nearly whispered, “there is salvation only in Jesus.”

“Balderdash! Christians know nothing about religion,” said the pandit.

“They strayed long ago from God’s path,” said the imam.

“Where’s God in your religion?” snapped the priest. “You don’t have a single miracle to show for it. What kind of religion is that, without miracles?”

“It isn’t a circus with dead people jumping out of tombs all the time, that’s what! We Muslims stick to the essential miracle of existence. Birds flying, rain falling, crops growing—these are miracles enough for us.”

“Feathers and rain are all very nice, but we like to know that God is truly with us.”

“Is that so? Well, a whole lot of good it did God to be with you—you tried to kill him! You banged him to a cross with great big nails. Is that a civilized way to treat a prophet? The prophet Muhammad—peace be upon him—brought us the word of God without any undignified nonsense and died at a ripe old age.”

“The word of God? To that illiterate merchant of yours in the middle of the desert? Those were drooling epileptic fits brought on by the swaying of his camel, not divine revelation. That, or the sun frying his brains!”

“If the Prophet—p.b.u.h.—were alive, he would have choice words for you,” replied the imam, with narrowed eyes.

“Well, he’s not! Christ is alive, while your old ‘p.b.u.h.’ is dead, dead, dead!”

The pandit interrupted them quietly. In Tamil he said, “The real question is, why is Piscine dallying with these foreign religions?”

The eyes of the priest and the imam properly popped out of their heads. They were both native Tamils.

“God is universal,” spluttered the priest.

The imam nodded strong approval. “There is only one God.”

“And with their one god Muslims are always causing troubles and provoking riots. The proof of how bad Islam is, is how uncivilized Muslims are,” pronounced the pandit.

“Says the slave-driver of the caste system,” huffed the imam. “Hindus enslave people and worship dressed-up dolls.”

“They are golden calf lovers. They kneel before cows,” the priest chimed in.

“While Christians kneel before a white man! They are the flunkies of a foreign god. They are the nightmare of all non-white people.”

“And they eat pigs and are cannibals,” added the imam for good measure.

“What it comes down to,” the priest put out with cool rage, “is whether Piscine wants real religion—or myths from a cartoon strip.”

“God—or idols,” intoned the imam gravely.

“Our gods—or colonial gods,” hissed the pandit.

It was hard to tell whose face was more inflamed. It looked as if they might come to blows.

Father raised his hands. “Gentlemen, gentlemen, please!” he interjected. “I would like to remind you there is freedom of practice in this country.”

Three apoplectic faces turned to him.

“Yes! Practice—singular!” the wise men screamed in unison. Three index fingers, like punctuation marks, jumped to attention in the air to emphasize their point.

They were not pleased at the unintended choral effect or the spontaneous unity of their gestures. Their fingers came down quickly, and they sighed and groaned each on his own. Father and Mother stared on, at a loss for words.

The pandit spoke first. “Mr. Patel, Piscine’s piety is admirable. In these troubled times it’s good to see a boy so keen on God. We all agree on that.” The imam and the priest nodded. “But he can’t be a Hindu, a Christian and a Muslim. It’s impossible. He must choose.”

“I don’t think it’s a crime, but I suppose you’re right,” Father replied.

The three murmured agreement and looked heavenward, as did Father, whence they felt the decision must come. Mother looked at me.

A silence fell heavily on my shoulders.

“Hmmm, Piscine?” Mother nudged me. “How do you feel about the question?”

“Bapu Gandhi said, ‘All religions are true.’ I just want to love God,” I blurted out, and looked down, red in the face.

My embarrassment was contagious. No one said anything. It happened that we were not far from the statue of Gandhi on the esplanade. Stick in hand, an impish smile on his lips, a twinkle in his eyes, the Mahatma walked. I fancy that he heard our conversation, but that he paid even greater attention to my heart. Father cleared his throat and said in a half-voice, “I suppose that’s what we’re all trying to do—love God.”

I thought it very funny that he should say that, he who hadn’t stepped into a temple with a serious intent since I had had the faculty of memory. But it seemed to do the trick. You can’t reprimand a boy for wanting to love God. The three wise men pulled away with stiff, grudging smiles on their faces.

Father looked at me for a second, as if to speak, then thought better, said, “Ice cream, anyone?” and headed for the closest ice cream wallah before we could answer. Mother gazed at me a little longer, with an expression that was both tender and perplexed.

That was my introduction to interfaith dialogue. Father bought three ice cream sandwiches. We ate them in unusual silence as we continued on our Sunday walk.

Fergie: Our Defence Was Frail

Sir Alex Ferguson admits United conceded some "terrible goals" during the shock 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

The manager was obviously disappointed with the result but also concerned about the defensive performance, especially with an important trip to Lille looming on the midweek horizon.

Here's a transcript of his post-match interview on MUTV...

Where do you start with that?

"We start with the second minute when we allowed one of their players to receive the ball and move forward without one challenge from 25 yards. When you're away from home, you hope to start with a tight, balanced midfield and see how the first few minutes go until you get your own tempo and rhythm. But we were on the back foot right away and we never recovered from it. The second and third goals were terrible goals to lose at our level. We can't afford to do that."

What disappointed you most about the 90 minutes?

"The start didn't help us. From that moment on, we chased it, and when you chase it, you are susceptible to the counter-attack which we never handled that well. Every time they played the ball forward it looked a danger. Their front two gave our defence a really hard time."

The third goal was a killer...

"There was no doubt about the penalty. The linesman gave it but nonetheless it was a penalty and right on the stroke of half-time. So it was an uphill fight after that. We changed the system a bit and played three up so that we occupied their three defenders. In that situation, you have to risk. We're prepared to do that and we should always do that but we needed an early goal in the second half to give us the encouragement and confidence to go on and do better."

The first goal was a shame for van der Sar, his first real mistake...

"I'd have to see it again but allowing a player to have a free shot from that range doesn't help you. That was bad."

How do you bounce back from this?

"The great thing about our club is that we have to bounce back. There's a lot expected of us. There's a great fascination about how we play every Saturday and what the result is. Today is another page in the history of Manchester United. Middlesbrough have cuffed us 4-1 and we have to get over that because on Wednesday night we have a really important match in Europe. And I think that result today only encourages our French opponents, they'll be buoyed by that. So we have to do something on Wednesday, we have to be positive and make sure we don't make mistakes like we did defensively. If we do, we'll be out."

The next two games are massive. Is that just what's required after a performance like that?

"Well, they're all massive really. Today was massive. I felt we were in reasonably consistent form, our away form was excellent. And in our away games this season we've started with a lot of patience and care in how we approach the game, making sure we get hold of the ball and make our opponents work for it. But we didn't do that today and of course that second-minute goal just compounded the whole day."

How much damage has that done in the title race?

"We've been hoping that Chelsea drop points and they're not doing so. Now the rest of us are scrabbling away hoping we can get some consistent form. Charlton have lost today, Tottenham and Arsenal have drawn, we've lost... nobody's getting the consistent form they need to challenge Chelsea."

Do you have to beat Chelsea next Sunday?

"You always have to beat teams, that part never changes. A lot of people are hoping that we're the team that can beat them and, of course, with the ability we have in our team, that is possible. But certainly on today's form I don't think we could beat anyone."

How big a challenge is Wednesday's game now?

"We want to qualify, obviously. We've always qualified from the group. We're still in a good position, don't get me wrong about that, but we can't afford the defensive frailties we've shown today. Therefore we'll play with a bit more caution on Wednesday, to make sure we don't give our opponents any more encouragement."

So you'll be looking for a response from the team...

"We'll get a response, that's without question. That's what we've always been good at. And that's my job."

Rozalia Valiakhmetova had been relaxing in the bath when the floor gave way, dropping her and the bath tub into the flat below.

She said: "I had just dozed off and then I heard this huge crash and realised what had happened. The bathroom floor just collapsed under the bath and I came crashing through the ceiling of the people below me.

"They seemed as shocked as I was when they saw me lying there naked in the bath in the middle of their living room."

She was treated at a local hospital for injuries to her leg but otherwise was unhurt.

Local council engineers said the floors in the old apartment block in Solnechnaya in the Surgut district of Russia where Valiakhmetova lived were supported by wood which had rotted over the years.

A Brazilian woman is suing her partner for not giving her orgasms.

According to Terra Noticias Populares reports the unnamed 31-year-old filled a complaint at Chacar Urbana Police station in Jundiai.

She complained that her 38-year-old partner reached an orgasm and then simply stopped the sexual intercourse.

Police chief Jose Roberto Ferraz is investigating the case.

Police spokesperson said: "We will look into it, we will treat it as an ordinary complaint and let the judge decide."

Students to hatch egg

Three German students are to try to hatch an egg quicker than a chicken in a TV challenge.

Nicole Hackbart, 25, Tina Pioszczyk, 26 and Alexander Wenta, 27, are to nurture the egg 24 hours a day.

They will take turns at eight hours shifts for an estimated three weeks on the Galilieo show on channel ProSieben.

They will keep the egg in a special hatching bag that helps keep the constant temperature and humidity levels needed for the embryo to survive.

The students, who must carefully rotate the egg three times a day, are competing with a hen that has successfully hatched over 270 eggs.

Psychologist Werner Katzengruber, who is overseeing the project, said he expected the human participants to form a bond with the egg.

"I'm sure they will become attached to the egg and will be overjoyed if a chick hatches, but at the same time they could blame each other if something goes wrong," he said.

"I doubt they'll be eating many eggs for breakfast after the experiment."

A primary school in Poland had to be evacuated after a nine-year-old boy brought a live hand grenade to a 'show and tell' session.

The pupils had been asked to bring something interesting into the classroom to show their classmates.

Nine-year-old Piotr Ernst, from Trzebnik, decided that a hand grenade from his dad's collection of WWII memorabilia was the perfect thing.

When later questioned by police, the youngster's father, Fryderyk, said he had dug up the grenade along with other WWII artifacts that he had found using a metal detector in woods near his home.

A Bosnian pensioner who claims to have been married 162 times has said he wants to marry at least another 100 women.

Nedeljko Ilincic, 75, from Milosevac in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said he first got married when he was 15 and since then it has been "just one wife after another".

He said he now plans to see if his "feat" is worthy of a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

The former waiter, who has 14 children from different marriages, told local weekly Svet: "I first got married when I was only 15.

"I did it mainly because my parents wanted me to marry a woman named Joka, even though she was 20 years older than me, because her family was rich.

"I soon divorced her though because I didn't like her and after that it was just one wife after another. I seemed to be getting either married or divorced all the time.

"The length of the marriages was always different, sometimes I'd spend a few years with my wife, other times it would just be a week. I must hold the record though."

And the former waiter, who is currently single, said that at 75 he had not lost his appetite for marriage.

He said: "I'm still very popular with the ladies. At the moment there are two I could choose from, Janja and Dragica, who are both from Gradacac in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and I've heard one of my ex-wives Petra also wants me back.

"I may be getting on a bit, but I'm not ready to give up on love just yet. Another 100 marriages would probably calm me down."

Prisoner sues God

A Romanian prisoner is suing God for failing to save him from the Devil.

The inmate, named as Pavel M in media reports, accused God of "cheating, abuse and traffic of influence".

His complaint reads: "I, the undersigned Pavel M, currently jailed at Timisoara Penitentiary serving a 20 years sentence for murder, request legal action against God, resident in Heaven, and represented here by the Romanian Orthodox Church, for committing the following crimes: cheating, concealment, abuse against people's interest, taking bribe and traffic of influence."

The inmate argued that his baptism was a contract between him and God who was supposed to keep the Devil away and keep him out of trouble.

He added: "God even claimed and received from me various goods and prayers in exchange for forgiveness and the promise that I would be rid of problems and have a better life.

"But on the contrary I was left in Devil's hands."

The complaint was sent to the Timisoara Court of Justice and forwarded to the prosecutor's office.

But prosecutors said it would probably be dropped and they were unable to subpoena God to court.

Sperm donor must pay maintenance

A Swedish man who donated sperm to a lesbian couple has been ordered to pay child support for their three children.

In the early 1990s the man, now 39, donated his sperm to a woman in a lesbian relationship. She had three sons, the oldest of whom is now 13 years old.

Although the man signed a document confirming he was the biological father of the children, he told the court the women agreed he would not be involved in their upbringing in any way.

But when the women separated, the biological mother of the three boys demanded child support payments from the man.

He went to court but lost the case and the subsequent appeal before taking the matter to the Supreme Court, the highest appeals court in the country.

The Supreme Court has confirmed the earlier rulings, stating that the biological father is required to pay child support to the mother of the three children he indirectly fathered.

Suspect caught by his own dog

A criminal who gave police the slip when they turned up to arrest him was caught after cops used his own dog to sniff out his hiding place.

Police from Hannover in Germany came to arrest the 22-year-old man over allegations of involvement in a series of burglaries.

But he fled out the back door and hid in the neighbours' garden as police with a search warrant came in the front door.

But the man left behind his American Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Lumpi, and quick thinking police gave the dog the order to seek his owner out.

The dog sped into the next door garden and stood wagging its tail near the place where its owner was hiding in the bushes.

The man is now in custody, while Lumpi was handed over to the man's relatives to look after.

A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake has reduced villages to rubble in Pakistan and India, killing as many as 1,000 people.

Pakistan's army described the damage as widespread and said it included villages buried by quake-induced landslides.

At least 500 people died and 1,700 were injured in four quake-hit districts in north-western Pakistan, said Rifat Pasha, the provincial police chief.

He said the toll could rise because rescue teams were still working in areas that were hit hard by the temblor.

Pakistani army officials who flew over quake-hit areas reported seeing hundreds of flattened homes in villages north of the capital, Islamabad.

"It is a national tragedy," Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan, the Pakistani army's chief spokesman, said. "This the worst earthquake in recent times."

Faisal Saleh Hayyat, Cabinet minister for Pakistani-controlled Kashmir, said hundreds of people had died in Kashmir, but he did not have an exact figure.

"Rescue work is still going on in Kashmir, and we are trying to provide immediate help to people in Muzaffarabad and other districts," he said. Muzaffarabad is the capital of the region.

At least 190 people died in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, said BB Vyas, a local government official. The dead included 20 soldiers who perished in landslides along the Line of Control that separates the Indian and Pakistani portions of Kashmir, said Col H Juneja, an army spokesman.

A Russian man who suffers from a rare disorder that means his body easily overheats has been divorced after moving to Siberia and turning his house into a fridge.

Vitaly Matyukhin, from Arkhangelsk, converted his new home into a fridge after being told by doctors that he was suffering from a "heat exchange disorder".

The condition means he risks overheating if exposed to anything over five degrees Celsius, the Moskovsky Komsomolets daily reported.

But after Matyukhin converted his home his wife Olga and their son walked out, saying they could no longer stand the cold.

The condition started after Matyukhin was taken to hospital suffering from heat stroke, which according to doctors upset his body's internal method of regulating his body temperature.

He said he now only ever leaves his house late at night in winter when the temperature drops below freezing.

The 22-year-old woman has been married for only 10 months but claims her life turned into a nightmare because of her mother-in-law.

Elena T. from Focsani, in Vrancea county, told a judge: "The presence of my mother-in-law at the most important meal of the day with her teasing remarks have ruined my marriage. I can't stand it anymore."

The court asked Mrs. Elena to reconsider her demand, advising her to find a better reason if she wants to separate from her husband, reported the 7 Plus newspaper.

Nurses ordered to wear skirts

Nurses in a Croatian hospital have been ordered to go back to wearing skirts instead of trousers after complaints from patients.

Some nurses at the town hospital in Firule had been wearing trousers while on duty, but patients had complained they looked untidy and unprofessional.

Hospital director Dujomir Marasovic has now written to inform all female staff of the skirts only rule.

He told local media: "We want to put everything in order here in the hospital.

"We want all nurses to wear the same clothes and we have imposed a rule which says they should wear skirts. The length of those skirts, be they mini skirts or otherwise, is up to the nurses."

A local homeowner came home at sunset to catch a man and woman having sex on his property - and then discovered they'd been living for free in his house.

They "...were having sex in the garden, on the lawn, behind some bushes," the man, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the N.Y. Post.

As many year-round residents in the upscale summer resort area do, the man had rented out his house for the summer to wealthy city dwellers willing to pay the price - in this case, $2,000 a week or $30,000 for the entire season for a three-bedroom ranch house a short walk from the beach in the village of Amagansett.

He made the mistake of letting some time elapse between his tenants' departure and his return, and that's when the freeloaders apparently moved in.

A pensioner was sent 12 bicycles, four boats and a luxury mobile home after a hacker spent £270,000 in one night under his name on eBay.

Horst Lukas from Iserlohn in Germany, also received dozens of tickets to rock concerts and football matches.

Mr Lukas says he received dozens of letters of complaints and even threats after sending the ordered goods back unopened.

"I am at the end of my tether. I've been cursed at in letters and emails because I haven't been in touch about my purchases or have sent things back," he said.

Managers at eBay in Germany say they will cancel the transactions supposedly created by Lukas, and police are investigating to try and catch the hacker.

Keane reveals United exit plans

Roy Keane has stunned Manchester United by revealing he expects to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The Irishman's contract is due to expire in the summer and it was widely assumed he would be given at least an extra year, possibly to combine playing duties with a coaching role.

"I would like to play another year or two but I do not think it will be at Manchester United," he said.

In a live MUTV phone-in, Keane has rejected any likelihood of moving straight onto Sir Alex Ferguson's backroom staff and feels it will be the end of the season before United chief executive David Gill decides whether the 34-year-old will be handed an extension, by which time it will be too late.

He added: "I would be surprised if I was offered a new contract and even if I was, I would not expect it to be until the end of the season but by then I will have already made a decision about what I am going to do.

"There comes a time for everybody when they have to move on and I am prepared to play elsewhere.

"I think it will be good to experience a different dressing room. It wouldn't be an English team though, coming back to Old Trafford and going into the away dressing room would be too hard for me to stomach."

The last statement is bound to alert Celtic, as Keane has made no secret of his desire to play for the Parkhead club at some stage in his career.

Although he is currently sidelined with a broken foot, the prospect of United without Keane is virtually unthinkable.

The fiery midfielder has been the inspiration behind Sir Alex Ferguson's side since he first arrived as a raw youngster from Nottingham Forest in 1993, making 480 senior appearances and playing a major role in almost all United's successes.

A Dutch witch has won her battle to make the cost of her brooms and spell-making lessons tax-deductable.

Tax officials finally agreed that the un-named woman could declare the cost of her overheads against tax.

Earlier, a court at Leeuwarden ruled that her witching overheads were not tax deductable, reports De Telegraaf.

The witch was a student of a witchcraft school in Appelscha which charges about £1,500 for a 13 weekend course.

Teacher Margarita Drongen said witches were taught how to make spells, prepare magic portions and heal with stones.

Prison visitor locked up

A 16-year-old girl who visited her boyfriend in prison in Austria ended up in jail overnight after guards forgot about her.

The teenager, from Graz, only expected to be allowed an hour visit with her 20-year-old boyfriend, who is serving a two year sentence for drugs offences at the Judenburg prison.

But she ended up spending the night with him inside the visitor's room.

She said: "I noticed after about an hour-and-a-half that nobody had knocked to say our time was up, and thought we had just got lucky.

"After two hours I realised I needed to get home and rang the bell for them to let me out, but nobody came. I couldn't even call my mum to tell her where I was because they made me hand my mobile in."

The pair were found at 7.30am the next morning by cleaning staff.

A spokesman for the Justice Ministry in Vienna said they would investigate the incident.

TO ALL OF MY FANS:

For many of you the revelation that my marriage has ended may come as a surprise. Though I have been going through this sad period in my life for some time now, it has been with the guidance of family, intense counseling, and the gracious mercy of God that I find myself rising to the surface.

I wish to bring awareness to the healing and grace that can come through believing that God can work through any circumstance and as believers we can prove to the world that when one of us is in need it is the church that becomes the hand that is there to lift us up.

In many ways it is through this situation that I have grown considerably and now view the world with more compassionate eyes. Knowledge comes through learning but it is wisdom that comes through experience. In this experience I find myself beginning a new chapter in my life. A song called Lay It Down came into my life as I was working on my last record and although the writers never knew what I was going through this song was like an answer to prayer. Lay It Down is a message of hope and surrender when all of your dreams are slipping through your hands. Messages like this are the reason I sing.

Although there is plenty of healing to be done, I feel like you are all part of my extended family and that's why I am sharing this with you, I know I can count on your prayers, respect and support on this difficult times.

Less than two years after her 2003 wedding made the news, Christian/Latin music superstar Jaci Velasquez's marriage has ended in divorce.

Velasquez and Indiana native Darren Potuck were married on August 16, 2003, in Franklin, Tennessee. But their marriage later "took a turn," Velasquez told Christian Music Today in an exclusive statement.

"When my husband and I started out as newlyweds, we were like all newlyweds, wanting that dream marriage," Velasquez said. "Somehow, things took a turn and we have ended up in divorce."

Velasquez did not elaborate on the reasons for the divorce.

A Word Records spokesman said Velasquez and Potuck had worked to save their marriage, and Velasquez alluded to that in her statement.

"I sought counseling," said the 25-year-old singer, "but the painful truth is that our marriage didn't work out. I've had such a difficult time with this. My heart hurt so badly that I felt like I wanted to crawl under a rock and just die. I can't say that I have ever felt such pain before. My heart literally felt like it was breaking in half."

Velasquez referenced "Lay It Down," the second radio single from her new album, Beauty Has Grace, to describe what she's now experiencing. The lyrics to that song include these lines: "All of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans / Are slowly slipping through my folded hands."

"I am learning how to live out the words of 'Lay It Down' daily and experiencing God's love, grace and mercy like never before," she said. "My God is so awesome, I can feel him lift me up every time I feel like it's all too much for me."

Velasquez further said she has not discussed the divorce "because it is clearly too painful. I am still in the healing process and ask for your prayers and consideration for my privacy."

In a 2004 interview with Christian Music Today, Velasquez had described her husband as "the greatest, the funniest, and the coolest guy you'll ever meet. … Any girl wants a guy that will be hers forever, and that's how I feel with him."

Velasquez, a Grammy nominee and multi-platinum selling artist in both the Christian and Latin markets, recently moved to London, but is still making appearances in the U.S. She will appear at the Soul2Soul Honors 2005 event August 26 in Louisville, and she will appear at a Nashville Hecht's department store August 27 in support of the M·A·C AIDS Fund.

She is currently working on her next CD, an all-Spanish for the Latin market. Velasquez is also the founder of her own Christian music label, Apostrophe Records.

Her divorce is the highest-profile divorce in Christian music since Amy Grant's 1999 divorce from Gary Chapman. Grant—like Velasquez a Word Records artist—later married country music superstar Vince Gill.

After Grant's divorce became public, many radio stations stopped playing her songs and many Christian retailers refused to stock her albums. But Grant has made a comeback in Christian music circles in recent years, especially with her two hymns albums, Legacy (2002) and Rock of Ages (2005).

Regarding Velasquez, a Word Records representative said the label is "not concentrating on radio or retail sales. We love Jaci, and we're concentrating on Jaci and helping her work through this."

Farmer 'breaks' penis

Farmer Gheorghe Popa, 52, from Galati, had been moving the grain sacks to the barn when he stopped to watch his 25-year-old wife Loredana hang up the washing.

Ferguson: Rooney Will Be Vital At Anfield

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Wayne Rooney will return to making headlines for his football ability after a week where the 19-year-old's temperament had been called into question.

Rooney was sent off against Villarreal on Wednesday in the Champions League Group D opener. But, on Friday, his manager was keen to go against the tide of media attention that has been afforded to the striker's fiery nature.

"He will put in a good performance on Sunday because that is what he's capable of," Ferguson said confidently. "He's been doing that all the time for us. He's always been a fantastic performer for us."

The United boss knows the prodigious talent he has under his wing will have to learn to deal with the media spotlight similar to the likes of Roy Keane, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and George Best before him.

"It's quite simple, he's such a high profile player. We're not surprised by the media focus on him. That's the way of the world and the nature of the press. They did it with Gascoigne, Beckham, Cantona and Best."

The positive aspect is that Ferguson is no stranger to dealing with combustible characters.

"We'll handle the situation because we have the experience to do it," Sir Alex said, though clearly not wanting to over-play the issue. "We're not going to get into that [analysing Rooney's temperament in public]. It could just go on and on."

Rather than the heated Anfield atmosphere having an adverse effect on Rooney, Ferguson believes he will thrive on it.

"It's the kind of atmosphere that good players respond to. It's a derby game against Liverpool and it is always an exciting event.

"I love this fixture," Sir Alex added. "Manchester United-Liverpool games always offer an incredible stage for the players to perform on. The atmosphere will be electric at Anfield. It puts players on a real edge for the game."

Gabor Mitynan, a conservative who runs the city's wealthy 12th district, also wants male employees to wear blazers in summer, saying the dress code was needed because he had seen staff dressed like beggars or holidaymakers.

Mitynan also dislikes tube tops – popular in Budapest – saying "few women have well-trained bellies worth showing to people", and wants the city to legislate on stocking thickness, proposing 5-10 denier for summer, 15 for spring and autumn and 20 for winter.

Mitynan is a rarity in Budapest's 23 mostly liberal and socialist districts, so his proposals stand almost no chance of being passed by the city assembly. Liberal Budapest Mayor Gabor Demszky described the proposals as "crass", according to the state news agency MTI.

Thief hid phone up her bum

Romanian police caught a female mobile phone thief by dialling the stolen phone - and hearing it ringing from her bum.

Police in Iasi stopped Petronela Brandus, 24, as she tried to get off a bus after other passengers said they saw her steal a mobile phone.

But after a search failed to find the phone, police decided to call the number to see where it was and heard a muffled ringing coming from under the woman's dress.

She was taken to a local police station where a strip search by female police officers revealed she had hidden it up her bottom, local daily 7 Plus reported.

Officer Madalin Taranu said: "We've had people hiding things in their bras and knickers before, but this was a new one.

"The station doctor extracted the phone and we sprayed it with disinfectant before handing it back to its owner."
